day in a chair

This unique program creates a rewarding and enlightening experience for able-bodied individuals to understand some of the daily challenges faced by those with a spinal cord injury. Offered to businesses and schools, this program emulates the challenges of individuals living with paralysis. Participants gain new insight into the life of a survivor by volunteering to spend a typical work or school day in a wheelchair.

"I loved being able to perceive the world from a different point of view. The eye-opening part was realizing how difficult everyday activites are to complete. From opening doors and cooking your food to using the restroom and other difficult facilities, everything has to be done with a new perspective and purpose. By far the greatest challenge was using the restroom. I still have little insight to the immense difficulty that those in chairs face daily."

"The program was awesome and provided an experience that I will never forget. The mission and execution is wonderful."

This was a great program that gave me appreciation for the things I take for granted and the activities I can do daily.

"Thank you for letting me live in someone else’s shoes. My perception has changed on what it is like to be in a chair."

JP Huntington

Beyond the physical challenges, it was amazing to see how people interacted with me while I spent time in a chair. What an eye-opening experience!
